Overview
The Kung Mountain Expedition (7077 m) is approached via the Shafat Glacier in the Zanskar Valley. Cun is a small peak in the Nun Kun massif, first climbed in 1913 by Italian climber Mario Piacenza. Kun’s climbing grade varies between his PD and AD depending on the month and snow load. The goal is to climb via the east ridge. The Nun Kun massif is the largest peak dominating the upper Sulu valley of Zanskar. The two peaks are separated by a short plateau and have separate traditional routes. The summit itself is easily accessible by car, and the base camp is only a day’s hike away. Follow Shafat Nala and hike along the shore to reach moraines and glaciers. Cross the glacier to reach a patch of green that serves as your base camp.
